Cymothoa exigua

Here’s the good news: The startling parasite pictured above, known as Cymothoa exigua, has never attacked any human host.

Here’s the bad news (if you happen to be a fish): Typically, he attaches himself to the tongue of the spotted rose snapper; feeds off the helpless fish’s tongue until the tongue withers into nothingness; and finally replaces the tongue with his own bad self.

Well, that’s certainly rude, to say the very least. But is it scary?

    The fish doesn’t, I dunno, choke on it or anything? Surely it feels the parasite is there and tries to get it out right o.o
